Certifications and Questions to Ask French Foundries
2026-07-17
A federation directory entry rarely lists a complete quality dossier. European buyers still need a crisp questionnaire before tooling money moves. Use educational profiles in the StålFe directory as the address book — then ask the questions below.
Certificates that usually matter
- ISO 9001 as a baseline management system.
- IATF 16949 when automotive PPAP logic applies — see PPAP/APQP handbook.
- Sector schemes (pressure equipment, rail, etc.) only when your product standard demands them.
- EN 10204 certificate level for materials — legal compliance handbook.
Questions that reveal real capability
- Which NDT methods are performed in-house vs subcontracted? (NDT guide)
- What CT/dimensional class do you routinely hold on similar parts?
- Can you share a redacted PPAP or FAIR pack from a comparable programme?
- How are drawing revisions controlled between sales, methods and shop floor?
- What is the escalation path for metallurgical deviations?
Do not confuse listing presence with approval
Directory membership means the company appears in a public federation roster. It does not mean StålFe has audited or partnered with them. For an approved manufacturing route, see Aquagroup.
